Yo, check it. I fooled around and digitally added a rock texture to one of my crumple drawings. I think it really enhances the natural texture of the crumpled paper. I might just have to make a print of this on account of how awesome I am.
But now… Now, I kinda hate them. I look at the above image and what I see is all the excitement and raw content of the Sharpie craze and nose bleed trapped inside a kind of soulless technique. I know I was young and still learning but I can’t help but hate this. I fucking hate it. Those straight lines and unimaginative use of still life objects. Sure the contour lines on the leaves are nicely done but there’s absolutely no self-discovery going on here at all. Funny… this isn’t the first time I’ve been way too hard on myself for crimes committed in college. I know now that I needed help and encouragement at the time but I still have trouble fighting the impulse to blame myself.

Here’s my latest and in dry erase marker, no less! I know, right!? Fun fun stuff. If what you end up drawing sucks just erase it! It’s like it never even happened.
Seriously, though, this is a pretty neat way to experiment with ideas and shit and not waste a ton of paper and if what you end up with is save-worthy just photograph the fuck out of it before you erase it. This also agrees with my arrogant artistic sensibilities in a lot of ways: “I created it, I will destroy it! It’s mine!”
Well, thanks for stopping by and may your problems be as easy to solve as this drawing was to erase.
