succumbing and OPG 2014

The fever of Summer is breaking and so is my resistance to the abuse I suffered at the hands of my half-sister, mother and father.  I’m succumbing to it all but fear not, for I am seeking help.  I have made an appointment with my doctor and I plan to ask for advice, medication and a referral to a good counselor.  It’s the waiting that’s killing me right now.  The disease howls and I am coming perilously close to doing irrevocable damage to my marriage.  I just hope the help doesn’t come too late and I hope my wife can, in time, forgive me somehow.  I really should’ve headed down this current path a good year or more earlier.

The good news is October is so very close now and I burned a bunch of vacation to ensure that I have every single damned weekend off!  I need my rest, especially right now.  As for OPG 2014, I plan on mostly posting on the weekends with sporadic postings during the week if I have time.  I’m not going to push myself.  I can get myself into serious trouble by thinking that I’m stronger than I am.  Nonetheless, staying at least a little busy with the OPG will be good, I can use the distraction while I bide my time.

That’s it for now.  If things come together I’ll post the first of the month, definitely by the weekend of all else fails.  See you then oxoxoxo

OPG 2013 CrUmpLe MaNiA!!

Shit got a little too real when I started sculpting Fuzzy Skeletonians instead of drawing them so I’m taking a step back to when I was pretty happy with my art, that being crumple drawings.  I cranked out a bunch of them earlier in the year (as well as a few more in recent days) and I should have more than enough to turn Octoberween-Palooza-Ganza 2013 into CrUmpLe MaNiA!!  Everyday, all October long, I will present at least one new crumple drawing to delight and disturb you all!

Of course, you are all encouraged to participate in OPG 2013 CrUmpLe MaNiA!! in whatever season-appropriate fashion you desire.  Make some art and share it with the rest of us, blog about Halloween, horror or October in general or you can simply make a donation to support my work.  I’m pretty flexible.

Participation also has it’s rewards.  All participants will receive a signed print of any crumple drawing displayed here during the month of October.  Anyone generous enough to make a donation will also receive the original crumple drawing of their choice on a first come, first serve basis.  Yes, that’s correct, donation is the easiest and most advantageous way for you to participate.  So if you have some extra cash laying around gathering dust just toss it my way this October and BAM! you’ll be receiving BOTH a signed print AND an original artwork when it’s all said and done this October.

(example 8.5″ x 11″ print with 5.5″ x 8.5″ crumple drawing)

That’s about it for the OPG 2013 CrUmpLe MaNiA!! ground rules.  Stop on by starting tomorrow for all the crumply festivities!

bloody fuzzy and the OPG

I won’t tell you where I’ve been artistically but the above image is fairly close to the mark.  I will tell you that I’ve officially dropped my Vincent personae.  It just wasn’t feeling right, it’s not who I am anymore.  My name is Eddie Jones and I will be you host, guide and victim as we slog our way, step by heavy step, towards the mountain of fear that is The Fuzzy Skeletonian.

In other news, October is creeping up behind me with impure thoughts.  So grab your vasoline and get ready for Octoberween-Palooza-Ganza 2013!   Stop on by this coming month, enjoy your beverage (or beverages) of choice and don’t dress up in any of your good clothes cause it’s gonna get all nasty and crumply.  Details to follow over the weekend.

OPG 2012 is gonna getcha!!

Here’s some fresh off the press crumple for ya!  This is basically the spirit of what my Octoberween-Palooza-Ganza is going to be about this year:  Last minute and wingin’ that mother!  I’ll be doing the obligatory daily postings and I’ll try to throw in some other stuff to make it interesting.  Also, BANNERS BANNERS BANNERS will be made this weekend and will be available by October 1st to kick off the festivities.

So hop on board and enjoy the ride in October.  I’ll try to be as nutty and impulsive as I can.  OPG 2012:  I’m wingin’ that mother!!

Clint, Fuzzy Skeletonians and OPG 2012

Okay, so I got this idea recently to create Unflattering Fuzzy Skeletonian Portraits for anyone who wants one.  I dove right into it and soon found that I needed to brush up on my portrait skills so I found an image of Clint Eastwood to work from (since the old crazy bastard practically IS a Fuzzy Skeletonian).  I sat down and tried my best to capture his features.  The man has a great angry face and an awesome skull so it was a pleasure to work with.  What you see above is what I feel to be the best of several attempts.

I have to say this is not going to be as easy as I imagined but you have to start somewhere.  Making someone skeletal and still recognizable is going to be a challenge.  I don’t want to just draw a freakin’ zombie with some flesh stripped away.  Oi, that’s been done TO DEATH.  I want something like bones that look like flesh, flesh that looks like bones…  Gonna have to experiment and mull this over a bit.  I’ll keep you posted as I hopefully make progress on this project.

Oh yeah, I do plan to have my usual OPG shenanigans and goings on in October but I don’t really have any clear plan of what I’m going to do besides daily postings.  Right now I just plan on wingin’ that mother just like the very first October on my blog.

Speaking of blog events, don’t forget to head on over to She Blogged by Night and wish her a Happy Blogaversary!  This is also the final stretch of the Camp & Cult Blogathon, which ends this coming Friday.  Check it out if you haven’t already!

Summer, Fall and the OPG!

Can you feel it?  The fever has broken.  Fall is on its way and Summer is going down for the count!  Hopefully, Summer has taken one too many head blows this year and will die from a massive brain hemmorage, never to return again.  In the meantime, the wife and I might be getting JUST A LITTLE excited about this coming October:

Furthermore, it’s time I let all of you in on the craziness and mayhem that’s going down in less than a month.  LESS THAN A MONTH!!  I’m salivating.  And you should be too because very very soon I will unleash my:

OCTOBERWEEN-PALOOZA-GANZA!!!

Octoberween-Palooza-Ganza will consist of the following parts:

First, I will be posting a minimum average of 1.39 original Halloween/Horror themed artworks each and every damned day THE ENTIRE MONTH of October!  Furthermore, the aforementioned minimum average is surely to increase as I squeeze in a few more artworks between now and then : D

Second, aside from the obvious celebration of Halloween and Horror, I will also be celebrating just over a year since Vincent’s Handmade Art got off the ground!  Yay!  Woooo!

Third, I would like to encourage everyone to participate in the spirit of the season and help me make the OPG something to remember.  I know this might take some work and (dare I say it) sacrifice, but I’m going to have to ask you all to take on the burden of blogging about Halloween or Horror sometime during the month of October.  I’m sorry to ask for such a unusual and taxing favor but it will be worth your time because by being an active participant in the OPG you will automatically be entered into:

FUZZY SKELETONIAN INSANE MEGA-GIVEAWAY!  FUZZY SKELETONIAN INSANE MEGA-GIVEAWAY!!  FUZZY SKELETONIAN INSANE MEGA-GIVEAWAY!!! FUZZY SKELETONIAN INSANE MEGA-GIVEAWAY!!1! FUZZY SKELETONIAN INSANE MEGA-GIVEAWAAAAAAAAAAYYY!!1!!

That’s right, folks.  I am prepared to give up 10 of my fuzzy fellas for adoption BUT there’s a catch!  In order to be officially entered into the giveaway YOU HAVE TO PARTICIPATE in the OPG, as described above.  Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Well now, that’s not really a giveaway in the true sense of the word, now is it?”  Well, you know what?  SHUT UP!  This is MY HOUSE and we all have to play by MY RULES!  Besides, I’m asking you to jump through a pretty easy hoop for the very good chance of getting your hands on one of these:

(ADULT CONTENT BELOW)

Actual size 5.5″ x 7.5″ on 90lb. watercolor paper and more detailed than what the scan shows.

This was the very first one I made this year and, therefore, represents the minimum level of quality you will witness from the inventory of Fuzzy Skeletonians I have to offer.  Now a few giveaway rules:

–  In order to be entered into the giveaway you must blog about Halloween or Horror and submit the link to me sometime during the month of October (if you don’t have a blog, please email me your entry and I will be happy to post it here during the OPG).

–  You can participate as many times as you like in the OPG but your participation will only make you eligible to receive ONE Fuzzy Skeletonian original artwork.

–  If there are 10 or less OPG participants this year, ALL qualified participants will be GUARANTEED to receive their very own Fuzzy Skeletonian artwork!  If there are more than 10 participants (I can only hope!) a random drawing will be held to determine who gets an artwork and who does not.

–  To add to the excitement, you will have no choice in which artwork you get!  All 10 fuzzy fellas will be displayed in detail during the OPG but you will not know which one you will ultimately get until you receive it in the mail!  Surprise!

–   Also, a little fair warning for those of you who are brand new to my blog.  All of my Fuzzy Skeletonian artworks will contain graphic violence and/or strong sexual content.  So, if you wish to still participate in the OPG but NOT be entered into the giveaway please let me know via email or comment.

Finally, I have the obligatory blogathon banners for all you crazy kids.  Behold!

Well, that about covers it for the OPG.  Now we all need to get our collective butts in gear and make sure we’ll be ready.  October’s coming fast and it’s going to give us all a good thrashing!

fuzzy skeletonians and the greater whole

Just wanted to share what I’ve been doing lately with my fuzzy skellies.  Here’s a quick work in progress .gif I threw together of the fuzzy fella I completed last night.  One of the many I plan to have ready for my OPG in the fall.

This whole idea was born out of a combination of seeing what ROUBLE RUST often does on her art blog and the desire to share with you what I see when I’m creating these guys (or any of my creations for that matter).  It’s just lines on paper and some watercolor paint, of course.  All these steps are what I see when I look at the finished product.  When my works are freshly completed what you’re seeing above is what often keeps me from seeing the greater whole.  I get the individual parts stuck in my head and it takes time for them to finally combine in my mind, allowing me to finally see what I’ve ultimately created.

Anyway, just thought this little glimpse into my process and methodology might be interesting.

you and me and the OPG

One of the many things I learned from my father is this:  If you want to get something done you start by promising that you’ll do it.  Then you stagger out into the garage, drink some more and pass out, sitting in front of the wood burning stove.  Mission accomplished.

Having grown up in that kind of inspirational environment it’s not hard to see why I started planning my Octoberween-Palooza-Ganza in December.  As I am unaccustomed to actually accomplishing goals I figure the earlier I start, the better.  If I accomplish only one thing this year, it’s going to be my OPG.

So far, I’ve just let my mind wander on the subject, waiting to see what occurs to me.  One of the thoughts that keeps floating around in my brain is the idea of original art giveaways.  Specifically, something like this:

Behold the power of my fine-tip Japanese markers!  I also used a red Sharpie and some red watercolor paint for that added zing.  To get to the point, would you guys actually want something like this?

I’m thinking I might’ve hit upon something kinda neat but it never hurts to get some feedback.  Anyway, gimme a shout when you have a minute.  Thanks.
