(If you’ve already read the first version of this post and found it to be a bit unclear and/or unfocused I apologize. I was rushing through it right before bed and I was both tired and unorganized in my thoughts. Anyway, here’s the update/edit. I feel it much more effectively puts forth the point I was originally hoping to make)
I got myself busy with my markers over the weekend. One night I completed a few drawings, ate dinner and watched some TV. Later, when I came back to my room I saw the last finished drawing still on my inclined table in the very dim light before I got a chance to turn the lamp back on. It creeped me out… No, it flat out scared
me and I stopped drawing for the day. I find the older I get the more easily I forget recent events and the more I remember my past. When the vivid horrors of the present become too much for me I retreat to the comfort of the past. Senior citizens who can’t remember what they did yesterday but can easily remember their first day of grade school in vivid detail aren’t necessarily senile. I think their minds are simply doing what’s necessary in order to survive the harshness of the present.
The above drawing is not the one that scared me over the weekend. My fear forced a retreat into my past and I chose to post an old pencil drawing from 10 years ago. My defenses went up and I no longer had the desire to face my art in its present state. My wife once made the observation that it’s remarkable sometimes to watch as my defenses go up when I feel threatened, insecure or scared. Perhaps that’s why I chose this particular drawing. What you see above could easily be a depiction of that exact phenomenon. Layered defenses of the past shooting up to protect the frightened little me hiding behind them.
And now for some WaCkY Creation Trivia! This was completed immediately prior to defending angel. In the upper-left corner you can see one of the scribble bats bleeding through from the page behind. Here’s a detail with enhanced color to make it easier to see:
Seems fitting that these two drawings are right next to each other. Very similar themes of protection and defense. May your own defenses serve to protect you well from the harshness of the day. Thanks for taking a look.
Here’s some pencil from my 30’s. This is from the same sketchbook as tribal mask
and defending angel
. As you may recall
, tribal mask marked an artistic rebirth for me of sorts and I think that momentum continued to grow with what you see above. The thick neck, robust features and fierce eyes I think shows my confidence increasing as I worked my way back from complete artistic inactivity.
Here’s some pre-Sharpie
craze pencil. I’ve always liked this one. It’s sorta like a delicate, abstract angel-type being, using its powers to defend against the Evil Scribble Bats of Mordor!

Look what I found! Proof! Proof, I tell you! This is some pre-Sharpie
craze India ink stuff that proves, or rather explains, how I was so easily able to draw Mangina vs. Cockasaurus
. It was simply something that I had done before!
At the time I drew this I was pretty sure it was just from playing Ultima: Quest of the Avatar on ye olde NES. There were these monsters called “Snatches” (seriously, I’m not making this up). They basically looked like meatballs with stubby legs and had big, sideways mouths opening and closing in spectacular, two-frame, sprite animation! This was a kids game. A game which taught you the basics about Truth, Love and Courage and how those three principles combined to make the eight virtues of Honesty, Compassion, Valor, Justice, Honor, Sacrifice, Spirituality and Humility. How they got away with Snatches I’ll never know.
Anyway, Nintendo game trivia aside, I thought this drawing was rather interesting when taking into account the past and present states of my artistic inclinations.

I’ve been putting this one off for a while now mainly because it still makes me a tad uncomfortable. Drawn immediately after lust mouth
, I feel like this in a lot of ways represents my more immature attitudes and insecure feelings regarding sex (not that lust mouth doesn’t). I can’t really get more specific than that, other than it kind of seems like this drawing is saying, “Oh, it’s a scary vagina! I’m afraid!
(ADULT CONTENT BELOW)
craze. Done immediately before this
. I’m assuming this is a self-portrait if this
is any indicator. The good ol’ mouth on the head seems to be a definite self-reference, although I don’t seem to have sad, square eyes or a hand-vagina. Eh, nobody’s perfect.
Well, I’m thinkin’ I better get my art on before the radiation spreads and kills us all so here’s some past pencil pushin’ for all ya’lls. This is some pre-Sharpie
craze stuff from almost 10 years ago. I’m thinkin’ there’s some influences from when the MTV showed the animated cartoon version of The Maxx
all those many years ago. I’m guessin’ the teethy little Isz had something to do with what you see above.
Seriously though, folks. If any of you start to come down with the radiationitis let me know and I’ll start my Octoberween-Palooza-Ganza early. Likewise, if I’m the first to come down with it, I’ll do my best to launch the event myself and crank out as much art as I can before my arms fall off.

Seems like it’s been a while since I’ve posted something from my past. Also, I haven’t had much time for new stuff lately so this works out pretty well.
Don’t have too much to say about this one. I’m thinking the jumbo lime margarita I had after work today probably has something to do with that. This has been my new tradition of late. All work weeks with 7 or more days end with a jumbo lime margarita. Today’s margarita was enjoyed with a generous helping of tacos de carne asada. I was very very happy when dinner was done. Right now, I’m pretty blown so I’ll sign off and hopefully get my ass to bed early if I can manage it. Thanks for stopping by.
No this isn’t my latest style, it’s what I’ve been going through in the past 48 hours. Just when I thought I was going to make it through all of the holidays without catching something, I end up with the worst stomach flu I’ve had in years. I’ll spare you the details by just saying that I’m surprised I still have any internal organs left.
The above image was actually drawn years ago during (you guessed it) the Sharpie craze. If there’s one thing that continues to surface throughout the craze, it’s good ol’ fashioned vomiting. Except, in my case, there were no midgets pointing at me. Well, I better get some rest and you all be careful, this shit is apparently contagious for a full 2 weeks after you’ve recovered.
I drew a handful of these creatures during the Sharpie
craze. I think they were just attempts to recreate what I had done in eruption
, one of my all-time favorite drawings. I can only assume that this is also a self-portrait of sorts. Not sure what it’s all about but the birds in the sky in the background are nice.
Oh well, that’s all I’ve got. Thanks for taking a look.

…in a sick twisted christmas complete with xmas trees, elf porn, and the everseeing eye…spying on all those children of the 3rd dimension.

I don’t normally do anything special for xmas but I just couldn’t resist! When I read the comments on hungry head they totally stuck in my head and I just ran with it. The colorizing is a bit primitive and goofy but I just decided to have fun with it. I did my best to achieve what was in the comments of the original post, turning the “xmas trees” green and going with the Grinch colors for Mutant Santa.
I hope you all get a laugh from this one, that’s what it’s for! This also turned out to be my 100th post! Yay for me and Mutant Santa!
Back in ye olde days of the Sharpie
craze I drew this little pair of bugs perched on some dragon breath. They seem to have a definite enthusiasm to them, like they’re at a football game or something and they’re all like, “Woooo! Go Packers!!”
This is the first page of the sketchbook I started over 7 years ago in the midst of the Sharpie
craze in full swing. This is the very same sketchbook that I’m just a few short pages away from finishing here in the near future. I guess it’s not much of a milestone but it is yet another one of the fascinating
bits of trivia I try to give to you, my gentle and attractive readers.
More stuff from my past. The creature at the bottom was probably the result of me playing the original NES Rygar
game too much. Looks a little like one of the level bosses. I loved Rygar
. There was no time limit, no score, just a quest to complete and you could take your own sweet time. My kinda game.
Anyway, I’m sure there’s lots of symbolism in this one but I’ve never really gave it much thought. Maybe the little guy hanging below and inside the powerful beast man is supposed to be my vulnerable, inner self, preferring to die rather than face the difficulties and pain of life. Or maybe he’s just too tired from playing Rygar.
It’s the Spire of Doooom! It reaches up into the skyyyyyyy! It’s opening a portal to helllllll! So Satan can screw us with his cooooock!
Okay, I’ll stop now. I only drew one of these things, unless this counts as a Spire of Doom. I really need to get back to these fast drawings. Lately, I’ve been bogged down with fussy details and color experimentation. I think it’s getting on my nerves.
Here’s some quick, cat cuties from my past. This is a sample grab off of one of the three pages that were in between this
, believe it or not. I’ve always been a cat person so they tend to creep into my work in one way or another. I’m all like, “Death, skeletons, death, insanity… Aww! Lookit da cute kittehs! Puking, porn, death, porn, porn…”

These protrusion, horn-type things show up a lot throughout the Sharpie
craze. Not sure what they are but I enjoyed drawing them. Also threw in some martial art-type hand gestures for some reason.
it’s a chicken skellie. Some sort of bird-like creature anyway. Not really sure what the hell is going on in this one, I just like how my chicken skellie turned out…
Or maybe it’s a turkey skellie! Ha! This was a 100% by chance coincidence that this post fell on today of all days. I’ve had this sitting around in my drafts for about a week now. Complete accident, I tell you. Anyway, here’s some more incidental stuff from the backstory of ye olde Sharpie craze and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t drawn on Thanksgiving, but who knows!
Thanks to all of you who’ve taken an interest in my efforts and have a great holiday.
